Wolfs (2024), the new Apple TV+ movie, has an ending that cleverly throws a last curveball your way. If you, like me, were so engrossed in drolling over George Clooney and Brad Pitt in that all-black attire, you might even get confused about how this silly job gone wrong caper leads to the final reveal that turns everything on its head.
Directed by Jon Watts, who returns to the real world after making the pretty successful Spiderman trilogy in the MCU, the film stars the aforementioned actors as two fixers who get assigned to clear off a dead body when a high-end District Attorney (played by Amy Ryan) places a SOS call.
In the following article, I will take a detailed look at what happens during Wolfs (2024), carefully analysing what Watts wants to show, what has already happened off-screen, and how that ending really comes together. Please be aware that the article contain spoilers, so proceed at your own discretion.
Wolfs (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
The film opens with District Attorney Margaret (Amy Ryan) making a frantic phone call after her night of fun with a young flame (credited ‘the kid’ and played by ‘Euphoria’ alum Austin Abrams) turns into a mess after he dropped on a glass table right by their bed and dies. There is no answer, which makes her even more worried about how she will deal with this sticky situation, seeing how it’s time for her electoral campaign to be in full bloom (we learn this from a brief click playing in one of the sequences that follow the call).
Anyway, she receives a call from Wolf no. 1 (named ‘Margaret’s Man and played by George Clooney) enquiring how she got the number she just dialed. After a few interrogative questions, Margaret’s Man shows up at the door with a secret knock. Margaret lets him in, and he promises to make her problem disappear if she is honest about everything he asks.
As all of this is going on and, Margaret’s Man is about to get to the dead body (checking his pulse, fixing loose ends) when there’s another knock at the door and, Wolf no. 2 (named ‘Pam’s Man and played by Brad Pitt) enters. He is introduced as someone who is here to fix Margaret’s mess, but since she did not make the call to him, he points at the camera in her room. This is where we realize that the luxurious hotel has bugged the rooms, especially the ones where renowned people often stay. The hotel’s owner, Pam, has sent her own Wolf to fix Margaret’s problem because this sticky situation might hamper not just Margret but her hotel’s reputation as well.

This is where the two women talk to one another and decide that the two wolves would have to work together to eliminate the problem. Now, a Wolf (which is a reference to Pulp Fiction’s character played by Harvey Keitel) likes to work alone. So, the unwanted alliance is played for laughs as the two charismatic actors who are great at being silly try showing off whose skills are better.
What does Pam’s Man discover in the room?
Pam’s Man is a bit cocky about the job, letting Margaret’s Man do all the dirty work as he chills out drinking his soda out of the can, mocking the other every chance he gets. However, while he is sitting down, he also notices a bag in the room. Upon opening it, the two men discover four bricks of drugs. This doesn’t just alarm them but creates an even bigger issue – they now have to get rid of the body and find out who the Kid got the drugs from because they might be on the lookout, and it might come to bite them in the ass later.
Now, both men are still pretty much in their groove trying to one up each other by showing off their skills. However, their problem becomes an even bigger mess when they get to know that the Kid is alive.
This makes them realize that the Kid was probably high on the drugs that they’d found in his bag and didn’t have a pulse when Margaret’s Man was checking because of it. To solve the problem of accidentally getting involved with a stash of drugs that belongs to a powerful figure, they decide to visit their secret doctor—someone who has helped them in the past whenever they’ve been injured or needed medical assistance during their cases.
It turns out that both of them have the same doctor (June, played by Poorna Jagannathan) who lives in Chinatown. She helps them out by trying to drain some of the drugs out of the Kid’s system. However, upon fully waking up, he runs for his life, and the two Wolves are forced to team up to catch him.
What does the Kid tell the Wolves about the drug?
When they eventually catch him, they check into a local motel to interrogate him. Some of the funniest scenes in the movie take place at the motel as the Kid reluctantly tells them how he got the drugs. He says that he was doing a favor to his friend who lost his mother by doing the drop-off in his place.
He also explains how, on that particular day, because of being in possession, he felt some kind of electrifying power in his body that helped women take notice of him. When he got into the hotel’s bar and eventually up to Margaret’s room, he decided to carefully take a little bit of the drug he had, just to see how alive he felt. The conclusion of his jibber-jabber story-time makes Margeret and Pam’s man realize that they need to now head to a club to get to the Kids’ friends’ pager, which will give them the address of the drug drop-off.
The two of them, who are now slowly bonding over how similar their work ethics are, decide that they will let things run their course and let the Kid drop the drug off. Since they have both grown fond of the kid – who feels pretty innocent to them now, they unanimously decide that they will not kill him but will also not intervene if the drop-off possibility leads him to get killed.
What is Margaret’s Man’s theory about the drugs?
Now, before we get to the Club sequence and what happens with the Croatian, let’s get to the conspiracy theories that Margaret’s Man keeps piling up throughout the movie. One of the important elements of the narrative is him suspecting that the drug that they had found in the Kid’s backpack was a part of the shipment that was stolen from The Albanians. Now, the two Wolves know that if these bricks are part of that shipment, both of them will get into a lot of trouble because someone is trying to fuck with the Albanians, possibly to set up a drug empire of their own.
Why do Margret and Pam’s men decide to pretend not to know each other at the club?
Now, the three of them – Margaret’s Man, Pam’s Man, and the Kid arrive at Club Ice – where The Kid’s friend used to work and where they will find the pager that will have the drop-off address. However, before they enter the place, the wolves realize that the Club is surrounded by Dminitri’s (Zlatko Buric) men – the brutal Croatian guy with whom both of them have previously worked. If he gets to know that the two of them work together, it will be their heads on the line.
So, the two of them get into a fake fight to distract Dimitri and his men as the Kid takes the pager off from the bar. Since Dimitri’s daughter is getting married at the Club, he doesn’t pay much attention to the two Wolves. However, one of his men takes notice and follows them.
What happens at the drop-off?
At the drop-off, the two Wolves hand over the bag full of drugs to the Kid and ask them to complete his job. Pretty diligently, the kid goes into the warehouse to do what he was suppose to do. But before he can come out, a whole gang shows up at the drop-off. The Wolves realize that these men are The Albanians – the one who originally possessed the drugs until it was stolen, and they are here to get it back.
Now that the two men have grown fond of the kid, they decide to step in and possibly help him out, but before they can, the Croatian’s attack them and the two of them have to team up together to fight them off.
Do the Wolves kill ‘The Kid’?
While they are at it, they also overhear guns going ablaze inside the warehouse. Assuming that their job has taken care of itself, the two of them walk into the warehouse just to witness the aftermath of an abmush where both The Albanians and the the gang that stole the drug from them, have killed each other.
To their surprise, the Kid is still pretty much alive, as he hid in the trunks of one of the limos that were parked in the warehouse. So, the ethical dilemma comes down to Margaret’s men. Does he kill the kid now and get the job he was assigned done? Pam’s man had already stepped out because he had just been helping when needed till now.
In a moment of realization, Margaret’s Man points his gun at the Kid but is not able to fire it. However, Pam’s Man fires. We are left stunned for a second before it is revealed that he has neither shot Margaret’s Man – someone he now likes, or the Kid – someone he has no beef with. Instead, he had shot the brick of drug that was in the Kid’s hands. He suspected that it had a tracker (it was briefly mentioned once) but never had the time to check.
After realizing that they will not be killing the kid after all, the two of them drop him off at his house – possibly threatening his father not to reveal they had been there before heading to a nearby diner for breakfast.
Wolfs (2024) Movie Ending, Explained:
Who was behind the entire mess?
Now, there can be numerous theories as to who had put the tracker in the drugs and who was responsible for what happened over the course of the night but not all of it is important.
The important part is that Margaret’s Man and Pam’s Man now sit face to face with each other and, after a few turnarounds and on the verge of saying goodbye to each other – get to the realization that both of them work for the same guy. There has been numerous hints about that throught the film, although director Watts is intelligent to keep it under wraps. The two of them dress like one another, work like each other, have backaches, have the same freakin’ doctor, and even have similar clients.
So, when the realization strikes, they get to understand that the entire set up of both of them being on the job with drugs and all the other shenanigngs involved, was to get rid of both of them. The guy they have been working for possibly wanted both of them vanished from the face of the earth. While the reason for this is not established, the ending of “Wolfs”(2024) makes it clear that they are both still under watch as they realize that the diner is surrounded by men with guns. Pam’s Man asks for Margaret’s Man’s name, but he insists that if they get out of the ambush alive, he will let him know.
Will there be a Wolfs 2?
The possibility is very ripe. The ending, which fades to black, doesn’t really show us the fate of our protagonists. There are also numerous expositions throughout the film that hint at a world beyond the one night we just witnessed. Whether Wolf 2 will happen depends on what kind of reaction the film gets after being slashed away from a theatrical release. A lot will also depend on whether Clooney and Pitt would like to go for round 2 after not being allowed to play their movie in theatres. Let’s wait and see.
